Robert Harper's training gathers momentum

Robert Harper is not an easy man to catch up with - or, rather, up with which to catch as those of us who were taught grammar in the good old days would say. Robert is training for a trip called "Cycle the Jordan Valley" which aims to raise funds for the Nazareth Hospital. However, one of our reporters did manage to track him down as he pedals furiously around Drumoak and Durris parishes. Robert told our man, between gasps for air - that was our reporter gasping not Robert - that training for his bike ride is going fine, into his last month before heading off to Jordan. While Robert's training has lost him several pounds - half of his wardrobe no longer fits him and his tirelessness on the grouse moors this year was the envy of his colleagues and clients alike - his fund raising efforts have been simply staggering. Remembering that Durris and Drumoak are relatively sparsely populated be prepared to be astonished when you realise that Robert has so far raised £18,239.
There'll be another 18 riders taking part in this the 18th EMMS bike ride for the Nazareth Hospital. This year's sponsorship project is additionally directed towards setting up a Nazareth Hospital School of Nursing Bursary Scheme which will provide for the education, living costs and provisions of resources for students who have the potential to succeed in their studies but whose families simply cannot afford to send them to learn. The scheme will enable talented and intelligent young people from Nazareth and the surrounding villages (including those from Bedouin communities) to attend the School of Nursing, and have the opportunity to avoid the trap of poverty. This will also help to continue developing a generation of well- trained nurses 'flavoured' with Christian salt.
Para Handy would characterise the ever-modest Robert as "chust wan of Brutain's hardy sons". It's not too late to be a sponsor just  go to his website
